Ephesians 4:13 states that we are to grow "till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ." This is the goal for education as Christians: to grow into the full stature of Christ. The Son of God is the only perfect role-model we can safely look towards, because He "created man in His own image." (Genesis 1:27) So how do we become like Christ? How do we learn and grow to be more like Him? The Bible says that by "beholding... the glory of the Lord, [we] are changed into the same image from glory to glory." (2 Cor. 3:18) Of course it speaks not of Christ's physical image, but rather of his mental disposition and character traits. We must have the mind of Jesus in us. (Philippians 2:5)
True Education begins with faith and lasts forever. "Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end" (Psalms 119:33) In order to learn to grow into Christ's character, we must study the textbook of the Christian experience, the Word of God. Since all scripture is given by inspiration of God (2 Timothy 3:16), it is the perfect standard of truth and deserves the highest place in education. It is only by understanding and studying truth that we may be cleansed and have more pure and perfect minds, bodies, and souls. (Psalms 119:9) Today's schools are teaching only a small part of a full education, for memorized information and an abundance of "knowledge puffeth up, but love edifies", instructs, and improves. (1 Cor. 8:1) And it is this law of Love which Christ Jesus came to teach.
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments." (Psalms 119:10)
"Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; if thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God." (Proverbs 2:3-5
Let us give up our worldly knowledge and be born again with a thirst for heaven's knowledge. Let us be the ones who can show Jesus that we have learned in His school on earth. Studying God's Word, learning the law of love, we will "learn to do well." Jesus invites us, "take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." (Matt. 11:29)
